Going by the messages on Apple’s support forum, some users of the iPhone have been urged by the company to install power-logging software so that the underlying problem with the battery can be detected.

According to reports from the The iPhone Blog (TiPB), Apple has contacted an “undisclosed number of users;” and has asked them to respond to 11 questions pertaining to their iPhone usage, in terms of battery drain.

The TiPB said that in a note that Apple has sent to the selected users, the company has enclosed an attachment that installs a profile – a developer-level app-provisioning scheme – sets up an Apple-supplied Battery Life Logging utility, to sync battery-life data logs to iTunes.

Talking about the Apple move, on a support thread associated with poor battery performance, a user identified as “mikefradette” said: “Some of you may already have been informed via e-mail by Apple, but for those of you that haven’t, I can assure you that Apple is trying to get to the bottom of this problem.”

Appreciating the Apple move, Aaron Vronko, the CEO of Michigan-based iPhone repair shop Rapid Repair, said that the recent “diagnostics” would likely help Apple in narrowing down the ‘nagging’ battery-related problems!

Just submitted to Apple as a bug, rpetrich (developer of the ActionMenu packages in Cydia) discovered an interesting security bug in the iPhone firmware.

If a password is inputted in a field, shake to undo, and you will be able to see the character you are deleting. Simply repeat this for every character, and you have the password.

Obviously this isn’t an issue that would be useful for those with a criminal bent, as you’d have to be within grabbing distance of someone who input their password, DIDN’T navigate off the page, and then left their iPhone… but a security bug none-the-less. rpetrich lets us know, this also works in any apps that save passwords (such as most Twitter apps) – making this bug much more severe.

A couple weeks ago I upgraded my hard drive in my MacBook Pro from a 80gig to a 120gig Hard drive, and I didn’t know it needed to be a GUID partition. Anyways I have it all installed and customized and setup how I like it. And I must say its Everything, Everyone said it would be and more! BUT…

I’m Having one issue and its an annoyance.

Is anyone else getting a Service Battery Indicator and their battery acting all weird? Running on Battery it said I had 1:30 Mins of Time.. I normally get 2:30 to 3:hrs of time on a charge. So I let the Mac Drain to do a calibration I noticed when the computer shutdown. I looked at the LED indicator on the battery and it showed it still had 1/2 charge left. So I did a SMC Reset. Powered back on and Service Battery Indicator was still there. I Did a Full Charge Let it sit for 5 hours and pulled the plug and the service battery indicator went away. YEAH!!

Well Now its back .. And I can get rid of it for a few days but that’s about it. There are many forum posts on Apples forums about this so I know the problem is somewhat wide spread. I also booted from an External HD that has Leopard (10.5) loaded on it and the Battery works like a Champ on this. So I Know its Software related for sure.

If you are having this issue comment back. Or if you have a fix let us know.

An Update on iPhone MMS for our Mobility Customers

We know many of our iPhone customers are eager for an update on our rollout schedule for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches – and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day.

We know that iPhone users will embrace MMS. The unique capabilities and high usage of the iPhone’s multimedia capabilities required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the expected record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One. We appreciate your patience as we work toward that end.

We’re riding the leading edge of smartphone growth that’s resulted in an explosion of traffic over the AT&T network. Wireless use on our network has grown an average of 350 percent year-over-year for the past two years, and is projected to continue at a rapid pace in 2009 and beyond. The volume of smartphone data traffic the AT&T network is handling is unmatched in the wireless industry. We want you to know that we’re working relentlessly to innovate and invest in our network to anticipate this growth in usage and to stay ahead of the anticipated growth in data demand, new devices and applications for years to come.

We thank you for your business and look forward to keeping you updated on our initiatives.

Apple has built a potentially dangerous downgrade into Mac OS X Snow Leopard, according to a security expert.

When Apple’s updated operating system is installed, it downgrades Adobe Systems’ Flash to an earlier, less secure version. Sophos security expert Graham Cluley said Wednesday in a company blog post that Apple installs version 10.0.23.1, which has not been upgraded to protect users against the latest threats.

“Mac users who have been diligent enough to keep their security up-to-date do not deserve to be silently downgraded,” Cluley said in the blog. “We know that hackers keep finding security holes in Adobe’s code–and that’s deeply concerning because it is so widely used by many internet users, whether on Mac or PC.”

Cluley said users need to upgrade Flash Player for Mac immediately to the most current version, 10.0.32.18. Failing to do so could open up users to vulnerabilities that have targeted Flash over the past several months.

“This should be done as a matter of priority,” Cluley said. “Adobe is the ‘new Microsoft’ when it comes to security vulnerabilities, with hackers targeting their software looking for vulnerabilities to exploit.”
