Plasma Burn is a Year old this month.   And Since April I haven’t been on the ball like ive wanted to be.  My IRL job has kept me neck deep in projects and several hours worth of over time and shift changes.

So ive been working on some changes, as you recall back in November we added Comic’s to our line of Blogging, and we had tons of hits when we did so. Soon I will be redoing the whole scope of what I blog about.  Ive decided it’d be alot easier on me to find additional people to help blog, and more things of interest to write about if I broaden the the scope of the site.

So as it stands now here is what im looking at:

All things:  Games / Tech & Science / Social Networking / Comics / and Beer & Cigars (yes Beer)

The Beer part I will explain on a later date.  But if you like Beer, Bars, Sitting on your Back porch with a Tecate & lime and a Cohiba then you will like whats coming in this area.

Each area will be broken down a little more.  These Categories are not in stone yet I may rework it a little bit more.  Like Social Networking that could really be classified as Tech.   So I May Make a Main Category called maybe,  All things Geek, or something to that effect.

Im always looking for Bloggers.  I want people who enjoy this kind of stuff, not people looking for money.  I Do this for fun, not for cash. In Fact Other than Jinx and Bawls, I will be canceling all other advertisements on Plasma Burn.  I Have 2 other sponsors I will announce at a later date (when we talk more about beer and Cigars)

Microsoft is busy announcing a slew of upgrades to Xbox Live, and the biggest news so far is relaunch of the video service, now Zune-branded with 1080p instant-on streaming content in 18 countries. XBL is also now integrated with Facebook — your Facebook account can be linked to your Gamertag, and games will support Facebook Connect for sharing content online. That’s pretty huge — but if that wasn’t enough, you’re also getting Twitter and Last.fm in the deal. Want more? Netflix users will now be able to browse the entire catalog instead of simply loading their queue, and Microsoft has also gotten its Party Watch system in order, so you’ll be able to heckle videos with your online friends. Last but not least, there’s now live TV streaming for UK and Ireland gamers, who’ll get Premier League soccer live from Sky. All in all, a solid set of updates for XBL — but we’ll wait and see how that "1080p" video looks before we pronouce Blu-ray dead. 

Today from the E3 stage in Los Angeles, Microsoft announced plans to dramatically improve their HD video offering through a new technology that enables instant on 1080p streaming with 5.1 audio with Zune video on Xbox 360.
This implementation is as close to a "disc in the drive" experience as possible over the Internet. At a high-level, here is how it works:

• Video startup is nearly instantaneous because of the back-end proprietary Microsoft technology developed by Zune that seamlessly transitions between many different bitrates and resolutions of video.
• Video playback will start at a low bitrate for fast download time and then ramp up to a higher bitrate and quality, up to 1080p with 5.1 audio.
• Features such as smooth fast forward and rewind that users have only seen before with local physical media.

It doesn’t stop there. Other news coming out of E3 for Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace:

• Social: We unveiled Movie Party, a feature where you can go to the movies with your friends whether you are sitting on the same couch or in living rooms across the country. Starting this year, you can share a virtual theater, see your Avatars (a virtual you) on the screen – all while you listen to each other laugh and cry together at the movie through voice chat on Xbox LIVE.
• New Regional Partners: Now, for the first time Xbox LIVE members in the UK and Ireland can watch live or on-demand TV with BSkyB on Xbox. Never miss a moment of your favorite live TV shows, sports, movies and family-friendly entertainment – even share your favorites with up to seven friends in an Xbox LIVE Party.
• Global Expansion: The 1080p streaming HD Zune video experience on Xbox LIVE marketplace is expanding to 10 new regions this year, making movies and TV shows available in 18 total countries including US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, and New Zealand. And Yes, it’s real. Now you’ll be able to change a tire… virtually. At E3 today, Microsoft finally took the wraps off the that rumored motion controller we’d been hearing about. Apparently the small, black device — codenamed "Natal" — will allow for an astoundingly wide range of actions by utilizing a group of sensors (the box itself sits beneath your TV), and the accessory will be capable of juggling multiple users during a single session. The demo Microsoft showed off included a skateboarding game (replete with a young man "air" ollie-ing), and a family playing a racing game (the dad was changing a tire, the daughter driving).

The add-on will offer features such as auto sign-in for players to Xbox Live (based on complex facial recognition), and sports extremely detailed body tracking which will be able to follow the individual movements of separate limbs. During the press event, the company demoed a painting app, which lets you use your entire body to handle virtual painting supplies, allowing you to do things like throw buckets of paint onto a canvas. Another title was shown off which featured a woman interacting with a young boy on the screen — one of the company’s creepier demos in recent memory. Unfortunately for us, Microsoft says the device won’t be released during 2009.

This is a great lesson on why you never post something like this on the Internet. Google is reporting of Artificial Intelligence has been turned on dubbed CADIE. And is being used with the new Auto-Reply Feature.

I Kind of wish this one was true. Smashing Magazine is reporting that IE8.1 Eagle Eye has been leaked and has some amazing features such as support for Firefox Extensions LOL love it!

Well today my friend and I went “Comic Book Spelunking” as we like to call it. Today we visited 4 Comic Book Shops. I Thought id take the time to take some mental notes and then post on here.  I will post them in the order we visited them in.

First we stopped at 2nd Chance Books & Comics.  Folks you can get lost in this labyrinth of isles of used books. Lucky for me I had my friend Jeff with me to guide me to the goods.  Back in the far corner there is a door that well, was kind of like a portal to greatness. As you walk in the door you are inadated with boxes among boxes of comics to go though. All nicely sorted and easily accessible.  They by far had the best selection of hard to find older comics. (I Found one of my Nick Fury Comics Ive been searching for). To go along with all the older comics there is shelves of comic novels and other collector items. As well as a complete wall of New Release Comics. After going though the bounty like a pirate I walked out to go pay and was met by a wall of glory.  On this wall where Marvel T-Shirts Galore! and yes I couldn’t leave with out buying one.  (An Awesome Captain America Shirt). All in all this was a great little oasis inside the book store. My only recommendation would be to expand the comic area a bit and get all the boxes of comics off the floor so that the next letter in the alphabet is not so hard to find. 2nd Chance Books & Comics can be found at 3909 N. Next up we went to the All Famous (According to Lorien Faulkner of MetroGlow Make sure you all Visit MetroGlow) All-Star Comics. This store is one of a kind. Its large and Spacious, and has a great selection of any and everything Including Star Wars Figurines. Another thing that makes the store is the ever so great is the friendly owner Wyll Greenewood this guy, you can ask just about any question you can think of Comic wise and I bet the man knows the answer. All-Star Comics also is a Authorized CGC Location for all those needing to get your comics sent off for grading. I had a good chat with Wyll, seems he is from across the pond. So we had a good chat about that as I too used to live across the pond in England for a few years back in my Air Force days. All-Star Comics has the best environment to be in for Comic book shopping. You just feel like you need to buy more just by walking in the door, you feel like your in comic book heaven. I spent way too much Money there Wyll. But I will be back to spend more I promise. Continuing on with our adventure Jeff and I head to the South Side to Atomik Pop Comics. I must say out of all the Comic stores I’ve been in, in my life this store is not a comic store.  Its more of a Novelty shop. Its small, cramped and very disorganized when it comes to there comic selection. Now having said that if your looking for Anime, or Maybe some World Of Warcraft Figurines or Action Figures. This is the Place to go. I didn’t get a chance to talk to the gentlemen working, because there where 8 people or more in this tiny place that OSHA and ADA would have a complete fit with. Im all for packing as much content as possible for a good selection, but not at the price of the customers not being able to freely maneuver around the store with out running into merchandise.  I don’t like bashing stores this store has tons of potential as they did have lots of customers in there today.  They just need more space. And a little more time in paying attention to detail in organizing there comics so they are easily found. Atomik Pop Comics can be found at 7884 S. Western in Oklahoma City.

Lastly on our journeys was Atomic Comics. This place is super hard to find if your not paying attention. But its a hidden jewel. This place isn’t the place you want to go if your looking for older missing issues. This place is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when wanting newly released comics. They have everything wall to wall. I chuckled a bit because I found some comics that I didn’t even know was a comic. Do you know the TV show Chuck on NBC? Yea well there is a comic and Atomic Comics has it.  They have tons of independent released comics and that hard to find Battlestar Galactica comic we all strive to find. Everything is well organized well at first it wasn’t to Jeff and I. Once we where told it was Alphabetical it all made since and things where super easy to find. But then again they didn’t have Jeff’s copy of Deadpool.  Atomic Comics can be located at 6006 S Western Ave in Oklahoma City.

Fan fiction writing just got a little less thankless and potentially more rewarding with a creative writing contest just announced by Blizzard. Winners get a sword, lunch, and a peek at Blizzard HQ.

Fans of Warcraft, Starcraft or Diablo are invited to write 3,000 to 10,000 words, set in either of the three franchises. The grand winner gets a trip to Irvine, Calif. to meet and dine with the Blizzard lore staff. He or she (but, since this is fan fiction, I mean, yeah, probably a he) will get a Frostmourne sword. Runners-up, and there will be seven, get prize packages comprised of signed copies of the Blizzard novels.

The contest is open worldwide, so, if the winner happens to reside in Ulan Bator, guess that means Blizzard will spring for the airfare and lodging. And since this will be judged by the Blizzard folks, I’m reasonably sure entries should keep it all fapfree and all the characters should belong to Blizzard IP. So, no weird crossovers with Sailor Moon or Stargate: SG1, and no hot orc-on-elf action either, no matter how good you think you are at describing such passion. The California law passed in 2005 that would have restricted the sale of violent video games to anyone under the age of 18 has been ruled unconstitutional in a U.S. Court of Appeals.

Since the law went into effect under California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, we’re obligated to let you know that the law has essentially been terminated, unless the state decides to appeal the ruling with the U.S. Supreme Court. For now, this law is luggage. It has had a pipe thrown through its torso and has been asked to let off some steam.

In other words…

"This is a win for California’s citizens," said Michael Gallagher, head of the Entertainment Software Association. "This is a clear signal that in California and across the country, the reckless pursuit of anti-video game legislation like this is an exercise in wasting taxpayer money, government time, and state resources. In the end, common sense prevailed with the court determining that, after exhaustive review, video games do not cause psychological or neurological harm to minors. And, that the ESRB rating system, educational campaigns and parental controls are the best tools for parents to help control what their children play."

Bo Andersen, head of the Entertainment Merchants Association, whose members will sell future violent video games unimpeded by Arnold and team, was similarly pleased.

"We are extremely gratified by the court’s rejection of video game censorship by the state of California. The ruling vindicates what we have said since the bill that became this law was introduced: ratings education, retailer ratings enforcement, and control of game play by parents are the appropriate responses to concerns about video game content," he said.

Andersen added, "I understand that some government officials will push for the state to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review this decision. The state should not acquiesce in this demand, particularly in light of its budget difficulties. The state has already wasted too many tax dollars, at least $283,000 at last count, on this ill-advised, and ultimately doomed, attempt at state-sponsored nannyism."

So  In a Search for geeks in love across the net. I’ve ran across some fellow geeks like myself who found a wife that loves them for our uniqueness.  Bobby Casey of  Gizmodo was allowed to have a iPhone as a Grooms Cake. 

Now although my grooms cake wasn’t as extravagant as the iPhone cake, my Mom made me a Oklahoma State University Fan Cake (see Pic below note the Hot wife). And the Ironic thing to this is my wife is a huge Oklahoma University fan, but she still allowed my Orange Pride. 

Now this wife allow the complete wedding cake to be a Death Star. We don’t know the individuals. I Couldn’t find much information about it.  But rest assured you can pretty well guarantee she is a Star Wars fan.

Keeping in the search I’ve found a company that specializes in Geek style wedding rings. And for approx $168 you can own a Lego Ring.

Are you ‘that guy’ at the arcade? The guy calmly defeating challenger after challenger on the gray market Street Fighter IV cabinet, milking your dollar bill for all it’s worth? You know, the guy stealing all our money? Well how would you feel if we told you that Capcom is partnering up with GameStop and the EVO Championship Series to bring you the very first Street Fighter IV National Tournament? Your head would explode?! Uh oh, maybe we should have kept this to ourselves…
Anyway, starting on February 21st at "locations EVERYWHERE" (warning: PDF link), GameStop will hold the first of three rounds determining the best of the best SFIV players in the country. Following that, the second round will take place on February 28th at "regional stores" and second-round victors will move on to the semi-finals on March 14th. Finally, the 16 winners of the semi-finals will be flown to San Francisco for the final competition, where they’ll all receive the upcoming SFIV Mad Catz arcade sticks and fighting pads, limited edition tournament belts and a place in the semi-final bracket at the EVO World Finals in Las Vegas. Retailer Game Crazy will be holding Street Fighter IV tournaments at 20 stores across the nation, with $500 as the prize for those who hadouken to glory at each location. The single-elimination, one-on-one tournament begins at 7PM on Friday, February 20. This is not to be confused with the national GameStop/EVO tournament, starting the following day.
There is no cost to enter and there is no pre-registration; competitors must be at least 13 years of age. There is also no limit on the number of participants allowed at each location, so these things could potentially go on for quite some time. We’ve asked Game Crazy to clarify which console it plans to use and whether players will be allowed to bring their own controllers (long shot, we know, but it’s worth asking). After Asking Game Crazy here is there answer on Controllers and Console.

1.) What controllers will be used at the in-store tournaments?
Xbox 360 controllers.
2.) What gaming system will be used at the in-store tournaments?
All stores will run the tournaments on Xbox 360′s.
3.) Can customers bring their own sticks? If so, what model?
No… in order to maintain a fair tournament, everyone will use the Xbox 360 controllers provided by the stores.

If you enjoyed Marvel’s yet-to-be-completed Halo: Uprising comic series then you may be interested in a recent announcement from Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada — during his Cup O’ Joe panel at NYCC, Quesada confirmed that Marvel will be publishing two more Halo miniseries by the end of the year. Hopefully, these two won’t get bogged down by late-in-the-game story revisions and accompanying year-long delays.
The first five-part series, which is set to deploy this summer (and could conveniently wrap in time for Halo 3: ODST) will be penned by She-Hulk writer Peter David, and drawn by Gigantic‘s Eric Nguyen. The second series, due out in winter, will be produced by Fred Van Lente and Francis Portela, the writing and illustrating (respectively) team behind Wolverine: First Class.
