Review: Local Comic Book Stores

Well today my friend and I went “Comic Book Spelunking” as we like to call it. Today we visited 4 Comic Book Shops. I Thought id take the time to take some mental notes and then post on here.  I will post them in the order we visited them in.

First we stopped at 2nd Chance Books & Comics.  Folks you can get lost in this labyrinth of isles of used books. Lucky for me I had my friend Jeff with me to guide me to the goods.  Back in the far corner there is a door that well, was kind of like a portal to greatness. As you walk in the door you are inadated with boxes among boxes of comics to go though. All nicely sorted and easily accessible.  They by far had the best selection of hard to find older comics. (I Found one of my Nick Fury Comics Ive been searching for). To go along with all the older comics there is shelves of comic novels and other collector items. As well as a complete wall of New Release Comics. After going though the bounty like a pirate I walked out to go pay and was met by a wall of glory.  On this wall where Marvel T-Shirts Galore! and yes I couldn’t leave with out buying one.  (An Awesome Captain America Shirt). All in all this was a great little oasis inside the book store. My only recommendation would be to expand the comic area a bit and get all the boxes of comics off the floor so that the next letter in the alphabet is not so hard to find. 2nd Chance Books & Comics can be found at 3909 N. Next up we went to the All Famous (According to Lorien Faulkner of MetroGlow Make sure you all Visit MetroGlow) All-Star Comics. This store is one of a kind. Its large and Spacious, and has a great selection of any and everything Including Star Wars Figurines. Another thing that makes the store is the ever so great is the friendly owner Wyll Greenewood this guy, you can ask just about any question you can think of Comic wise and I bet the man knows the answer. All-Star Comics also is a Authorized CGC Location for all those needing to get your comics sent off for grading. I had a good chat with Wyll, seems he is from across the pond. So we had a good chat about that as I too used to live across the pond in England for a few years back in my Air Force days. All-Star Comics has the best environment to be in for Comic book shopping. You just feel like you need to buy more just by walking in the door, you feel like your in comic book heaven. I spent way too much Money there Wyll. But I will be back to spend more I promise. Continuing on with our adventure Jeff and I head to the South Side to Atomik Pop Comics. I must say out of all the Comic stores I’ve been in, in my life this store is not a comic store.  Its more of a Novelty shop. Its small, cramped and very disorganized when it comes to there comic selection. Now having said that if your looking for Anime, or Maybe some World Of Warcraft Figurines or Action Figures. This is the Place to go. I didn’t get a chance to talk to the gentlemen working, because there where 8 people or more in this tiny place that OSHA and ADA would have a complete fit with. Im all for packing as much content as possible for a good selection, but not at the price of the customers not being able to freely maneuver around the store with out running into merchandise.  I don’t like bashing stores this store has tons of potential as they did have lots of customers in there today.  They just need more space. And a little more time in paying attention to detail in organizing there comics so they are easily found. Atomik Pop Comics can be found at 7884 S. Western in Oklahoma City.

Lastly on our journeys was Atomic Comics. This place is super hard to find if your not paying attention. But its a hidden jewel. This place isn’t the place you want to go if your looking for older missing issues. This place is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when wanting newly released comics. They have everything wall to wall. I chuckled a bit because I found some comics that I didn’t even know was a comic. Do you know the TV show Chuck on NBC? Yea well there is a comic and Atomic Comics has it.  They have tons of independent released comics and that hard to find Battlestar Galactica comic we all strive to find. Everything is well organized well at first it wasn’t to Jeff and I. Once we where told it was Alphabetical it all made since and things where super easy to find. But then again they didn’t have Jeff’s copy of Deadpool.  Atomic Comics can be located at 6006 S Western Ave in Oklahoma City.

Well that ends our day of “Comic Book Spelunking” we will be doing more soon and checking out many other Comic sites located though out the Oklahoma Area.
